The DHIS Mobile is a collaborative to create mobile solutions for District Health Information Software. The DHIS Mobile started as a Sub-center Data Reporting & Transmission (SCDRT) application running on mobile phones, but now has moved to beyond sub-center reporting towards a m-Health initiative that encompasses a broad range of health applications that integrate with DHIS.
DHIS Mobile consists of a mobile-client and the DHIS 2 server. The mobile-client is a JavaME MIDP 2.0 application which runs on the lowest end Java-enabled phones, which start from $30 and uses SMS for reporting facility data into DHIS 2. It can run on any any operator's network, using simple GSM modem/phones which is connected to the DHIS 2 server to receive the reports. Following is the information flow of the data coming from the mobile application to a DHIS 2 server.
